The owner of this Honda Talon UTV wanted to up his offroad entertainment by adding a speaker upgrade. We talked with him about the space available in the UTV and his goals for the system. Once we had worked out a plan that fit his goals and budget, we scheduled the appointment.
Wet Sounds Soundbar
A great solution for sound in a UTV is a soundbar. We carry the best soundbars available, made by Wet Sounds. Wet Sounds offers sound bars that have amplifiers and Bluetooth receivers built in. These makes a great solution for applications such as this UTV. One great feature about the Wet Sounds soundbars is that they also feature additional outputs for adding more speakers to the system.
To ensure the security of the soundbar mounting on this Talon, we bolted the brackets through a metal roof support. We made sure to use stainless steel hardware so the mounting strength wouldn’t be compromised by oxidation.
JL Audio VeX UTV Speakers
The initial discussion with the client led us to understand that he wanted more than just the sound that a soundbar would provide. Looking at the space available to work with in the back of the UTV, we knew we had the perfect solution for the back. JL Audio VeX pods are enclosed, waterproof speakers designed for just such an application. We were able to tuck the VeX pods in the corners of the frame so that they didn’t take up any usable space.
We powered the VeX speaker pods with a JL Audio Mx280/4 amplifier. The JL Audio Mx series amplifiers are designed for use in powersports applications. They offer the most water resistance of any amplifier we carry.
Final Tuning and Delivery
With all the gear installed, it was time for us to set up the products. We began by syncing one of our phones to the Wet Sounds soundbar. When we had audio playing, we adjusted the JL Audio Mx amplifier’s level to provide a good sound balance between the soundbar and the Vex speaker pods. Once everything was set up and we cleaned up the buggy, we called the client to come to pick it up. He was delighted with the great sound from the new audio system and the clean installation.
