The owner of this Harley-Davidson trike stopped by Pinnacle Autosound to see about a speaker and radio upgrade. After talking with the client to determine his goals for the upgrade, we also determined that an amplifier would benefit him. We talked about a few radio options and speaker choices and devised an excellent solution for his trike.
Aquatic AV Harley-Davidson Radio
We started the upgrade by disassembling the front fairing. This allowed us to gain access to the radio wiring and speakers. It also gave us a look at possible options for mounting the amplifier. While the fairing was apart, we installed and wired in a new Aquatic AV Bluetooth radio. This radio features a large, bright screen that is easy to read. It also has oversized buttons, making it easy to control, even with the vibrations from riding.
JL Audio Front Speakers
With the radio taken care of, we moved onto the front speakers. One of our most popular speakers for motorcycles is the JL Audio C2 line. They are made of weather-resistant materials and play loudly and cleanly. We swapped out the front speakers with a set of C2 coaxials.
JL Audio Mx Amplifier
The final task in the fairing was to install the amplifier. We used our laser to make a custom acrylic plate to mount the amplifier on. After the amplifier was securely mounted, we wired it up to the speakers and battery.
JL Audio Rear Speakers
Now that the front was taken care of, we moved to the back of the bike. The rear speakers in this trike were in small pods. The shape of the pod limited our options for speakers. We were pleased to find, though, that the 4″ version of the C2 speaker would fit. It only required us to use our laser once again to cut custom speaker adapter plates. The plates we make have provisions for mounting the speaker, securing the plate to the pod, and allowing the factory grille to fit still.
Great-sounding Harley-Davidson Speaker Upgrade
The final step in this job was to set the adjustments on the JL Audio Mx amplifier. We set the crossover points and matched the gain settings to the output of the Aquatic AV output. The result was a great-sounding trike that the client loved.
