Ford Backup Camera, Radio, Speaker, and Subwoofer Upgrade

We work on a lot of Ford trucks here at Pinnacle Autosound. We consider ourselves Ford experts! The owner of this Ford F-250 contacted us about adding a new radio and backup camera to his vehicle. In addition to the radio and backup camera, he wanted to upgrade the audio in the truck.

Ford Backup Camera and Radio

The new Sony radio was a huge improvement over the factory model.

We wired the backup camera to come on when the truck was placed in reverse.

The camera bracket has an adjustable mount so we can perfect the aiming.

We like the small size of the Echomaster camera.

The first step in this job was to replace the old factory radio with a new Sony radio that features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The two smartphone integration options will allow the client to use his smartphone safely while driving. We love how smoothly the two handle navigation mapping, music playback, phone calls, and even texts while driving.
While we had the radio out we worked on routing the cable for the Echomaster backup camera to the rear of the truck. On this truck, we used our most popular backup camera, a model that places the camera just over the license plate. The mount for the camera is adjustable so we can tweak the camera angle to show perfectly, for instance, a trailer hitch and what else is behind the truck.

JL Audio Speakers and Rockford Fosgate Subwoofer

The JL Audio speakers were a direct fit in the 5×7 speaker location.

The doors were upgraded with JL Audio speakers.

Thanks to the slim design of the Rockford enclosure, it fit perfectly behind the rear seat.

Once we had the technology in the truck dash upgraded, it was time for us to move on to the audio quality. We replaced all four speakers in the truck with JL Audio C1 coaxial speakers. The C1 speakers are one of our favorite budget-conscious speakers. They sound great!
To play some of the lower octaves that the door speakers are capable of, we also added a Rockford Fosgate 8-inch powered subwoofer. The thin subwoofer enclosure utilizes a ported design to maximize the subwoofer’s output. We have installed many of these enclosures and are impressed every time we play one.

Setup, Cleanup, And Delivery

We only had a few things left to do on the truck at this point. The first of which was to adjust the settings on the radio to make the speakers sound their best. Then we adjusted the Rockford subwoofer so that the bass blended perfectly with the new speakers.
Now that the truck sounded great, we cleaned up the areas we were working on, and let the client know it was ready for pickup. The client was thrilled with all the new upgrades on his truck and liked the idea of being able to use his smartphone safely while he was driving.
